Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the much awaited Padma Bridge will be opened for traffic by June this year. He said that in the meantime, the main work of the bridge has been 98 percent, and the overall progress of the project is 90.5 percent.
Obaidul Quader made the remarks at a press briefing after an exchange of views with various officials at the capital’s bridge department on Tuesday (February 1) morning.
Secretary of the bridge department Md. Manzur Hossain and other officials were present at the time.
Stating that 80 per cent progress of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under construction along the Karnafuli River in Chittagong has been completed, the Bridges Minister said work on the project is being completed with the aim of completing it by December this year.
Of the three phases of Dhaka Elevated Expressway, the first phase from Airport to Banani has been completed at 7.5 percent and the progress of Banani Magbazar section is 31 percent.
The Minister for Road Transport and Bridges said that the preparatory work for the commencement of work on Airport Ashulia-EPZ Expressway and Charlene Road at 8-grade has been completed and test piling work has also been completed.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said in response to a question from reporters about the verdict in the Sinha murder case that it proved that Sheikh Hasina’s government believes in the rule of law.
Obaidul Quader said that the law is equal for all and the criminal justice system of the country is working independently.
Later, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Dwaraiswamy paid a courtesy call on Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
