The Nationalist Lawyers Unity Forum has won most of the posts including president and general secretary in the election of Jhenaidah District Bar Association.
The election was held at the district bar building on Thursday. Advocate Rabiul Islam (1), president of the Nationalist Lawyers Unity Forum, was elected president with 134 votes and Advocate Samsuzzaman Lucky was elected general secretary with 131 votes. Their rival Awami League Council Presidential candidate Ed Khandaker Liaquat Ali got 112 votes.
General Secretary Md. Manjurul Islam got 115 votes. The BNP-Jamaat-backed council won 10 of the 19 seats and the Awami League-backed panel won nine. Other posts include Rashidul Hasan Jahangir as Vice President, A, SM Rakib-ul-Hasan as Deputy General Secretary, Md. Riazul Islam Riaz as Accountant, Miss Shah Afroza Nasrin Rina as Literature and Library Secretary, Sports and Entertainment Secretary. Md. Mostafizur Rahman Mandal, Habibullah Bahar as Religious and Entertainment Secretary, Shahinul Islam Shahin as Information Technology Secretary and Mahfuzur Rahman, Dabir Uddin, Kazi Alaul Haque Alo, Akidul Islam, Zahidul Islam, Bina Khatun, Subhash Biswas Milon, Dipu Kumar Biswas as members. , Mushfiqul Islam Mishti and Nazrul Islam (3) were elected. Out of a total of 256 voters, 254 exercised their franchise. Voting takes place from 9 am to 3 pm. The results were announced around 11:30 pm on Thursday. Senior Advocate Azizur Rahman (3) acted as the Election Commissioner.
Meanwhile, district BNP convener Advocate SM Mashiur Rahman and Member Secretary Advocate MA Majid congratulated the pro-BNP panel for winning ten important posts including president and general secretary. Adviser to the BNP chairperson, former MP Bir Muktijoddha Mashiur Rahman congratulated the electorate and hoped that the electorate would be able to play an important role in establishing the rule of law in the courts by coordinating the bar and benches.
