Jhenaidah Harinakundu clash over water supply. 4 injured

A bloody clash has erupted between the two sides over irrigation of land in Shinga village of Falsi union in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah.

At least four people were injured in the clashes on both sides.

The injured Jahidul Islam, Sajedul Islam, Abdul Latif and Shahidul Islam are undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. Among the injured, their brothers Jahedul and Sajedul Islam are in critical condition, hospital sources said.

Muktar Ali, a farmer from Singa village, went to fetch irrigation water from his land on Thursday afternoon. As the land was low, water had to be brought through other high lands around it for irrigation. In this situation, when he went to fetch water from the adjacent land, the owner of the land, Sajedul Islam of the same village, stopped him from fetching water through the land as fertilizer had been given to his land recently. Muktar Ali insisted on fetching water and at one stage Muktar Ali called his son Sabuj and forcibly went to fetch irrigation water through Sajedul’s land.

According to locals, the two sides were armed with sharp weapons. The matter was resolved through the mediation of the locals present.

Then on Thursday night, Sajedul and Zahidul left their village mosque to return home after Esha prayers. Suddenly on the way, led by Muktar Ali, Sabuj Ali, Abdar Ali and Boks Ali attacked them with sharp weapons. The families of the injured and injured said.

Sanwar Hossain, nephew of injured Sajedul Islam, said that the issue of misunderstanding regarding irrigation was resolved at noon. Even then, Muktar Ali and his son Sabuj have carried out barbaric attacks on my uncles by force.

Harinakundu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim Mollah, when asked about the incident, said, “As soon as we got the news, we rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.” A case has been registered in the police station. Subject to cross-examination of the case, legal action will be taken after arresting the culprits.

Those who created unrest and anarchy in the quiet Harinakundu police station will not be spared.
